Hi Zolee,

Can you descibe your installation proces?
Which parts of package have you already installed?
Have you got any errors and problems until installation?

Check this names in "Program and Features":
  • "Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 4.0 Refresh"
  • "Microsoft XNA Game Studio Platform Tools"
Check that you have installed an extension to your version of Visual Studio:
  • Start Visual Studio
  • Pick the TOOLS menu
  • Select the Extensions and Updates..
  • Choose the Installed
  • Find out the XNA Game Studio 4.0

Hi mklemarczyk,

Thx your reply and sorry for the wrong place of comment.
  • My installation process was the following:
    1. Install DirectX
    2. Install XNA Framework 4.0 Redistribution
    3. Install XNA Game Studio 4.0 Platform Tools
    4. Install XNA Game Studio 4.0 Shared
    5. Install XNA Game Studio 4.0.vsix
  • Only the directx was installed on my pc.
  • I didn't get errors during the installation.
  • There are both items in the Programs and features.
  • I can find the XNA Game Studio 4.0 in the Installed section. But its icon is gray, i dont know its matter. And I can disable and uninstall it from this menu.
Finally we switched to VS2010 and started the implementation, but VS2012 would be better. :)

Have a nice day,
Zolee

Hi Zolee,

Can you give full version of your Windows 8?
We will make a simulation of your case.

Thanks,

I am trying to install it on Win8.1. I ran the procedure exactly as laid out above, but it doesn't work. I get the following messages below.
I already had VS Express 2010 installed with XNA4, I got around the problem with installing that on win8.1 by installing the windows live client, which does the trick. However I have a need now to build an XNA4 application using VS2012 and your solution seemed like the perfect one, if I could get it to work. Is my 2010 XNA4 installation perhaps causing a conflict? I have attached the error messages below. I am very keen to get this going if you have a solution please.

Hi drenton72,

Can you send us ActivityLog.xml file?

It is possible that VS Express 2010 makes troubles with XNA4. We didn't test this solution with more than one installed Visual Studio on single system.

Yes I have heard this can cause problems, but it had been fine up to now. I had monogame on vs2012 and xn4 on vs2010 express. Where do I find that file?

Think I need to zip it and send you it, our college firewall blocked it I think.

Did you get my file?

Can I ask one thing before I pursue this any further. If I get XNA4 to work with VS2012 or 2013 in Windows8 using the method on your website, will I be able to create XNA4 apps that use .NET4.5 and are 64-bit apps? If the answer is NO to that then it isn't much use to me. The only reason I'm trying to do it is because I need to port some XNA Kinect v1 apps to Kinect v2 and Kinect v2 only works on Win8 with .NET4.5 and 64-bit apps. I have managed to port one app using MonoGame, but I would have rather just stuck to XNA4.

Hi drenton72,

No, I didn't get any file from you.

XNA 4 support only .NET Framework 4.0 and x86 architecture, becouse this is original version of XNA 4 released by Microsoft.

I have the same issue, and looking through the support so do a few others.
I followed instructions, everything is installed as should be, I can compile XNA phone games on VS2010 with no issues.
I have Windows 8.1 & Visual Studio 11.0.610030.00 Update 4, Windows Phone SDK 7.1, exact same error as above.

Hello,

I am working on Visual Studio Ultimate 2012 (Update 4) on Windows 8.1. I installed everything as described, by I am still getting the above issue.

How should I send you the ActivityLog file?

I need to solve this issue to the earliest. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi drenton72,

You can send this file on any file hosting and put here link to it.

For example: speedyshare.com or sendspace.com

To be honest, its been so long since I posted the question that I can kinda given up on the idea. If I get a second though I'll see if I can find the file.
